It is quite ironic that in times of adversity, the ultimate place of comfort lies in the present. Looking to the past only makes us sadder - we start to see the growing ocean that forms between who we are now and who we were. Looking to the future only guarantees undue optimism - we see who we want to be and where we stand and expect some form of magic carpet to move us to our destination. Instead, in times when we do face obstacles, it is subtly beautiful to see the determinist human instinct urging us to find ways to try to solve the situation, to soldier on. Perhaps it is in these times when the world comes against us that we start to witness the countering nuance of inner strength and resilience.
